Apple wants Siri to take on more of the work between a user setting a goal and the task being finished, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. His 8 November report describes a move towards an assistant that can keep track of objectives and pursue them without needing a fresh instruction for every step.
The possible 2027 timing is Gurman’s assessment. In wording reproduced by MacRumors and 9to5Mac, he wrote: “I believe the company could make Siri more like an agent as early as next year.” Apple has not announced a launch date for that capability in the materials reviewed for this story.
What Apple has opened to developers
Apple’s own announcement gives a more concrete account of the tools available now. On 3 November, the company opened a Siri AI Developer Preview alongside the 27.3 betas for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.
Developers can expose their apps’ content and custom actions through App Intents. Apple gives checking a delivery, booking a reservation and placing an order as examples. It also introduced skills that teach Siri AI to combine several actions for a complex request.
That gives Siri a defined set of operations it can perform inside participating apps. Apple describes users asking in their own words, with Siri using personal context and onscreen awareness to carry out the request. The preview also lets Siri surface entities from the Spotlight semantic index beyond the previously supported schemas.
Apple says customer availability will follow in a few months and App Store submissions will open in spring. Those dates concern the developer preview’s app integrations. They do not establish a launch schedule for the proactive assistant Gurman describes.
From carrying out a request to following a goal
A request can already involve several actions. The additional behaviour in Gurman’s report is continuing to decide what should happen next and pursuing an objective without the user initiating each step. His post names ChatGPT Dots, Meta Muse and Grok as the competing products Apple wants to match.

The two accounts describe different scopes. Apple’s announcement documents interfaces that developers can build against today. Gurman’s report concerns a broader product direction whose final implementation remains unclear. A working app action, or a sequence of actions, does not by itself demonstrate that broader behaviour.
Apple’s preview announcement says more details on terms and usage policies will follow. For the reported proactive Siri, the materials reviewed do not establish which tasks it could initiate, how long it could continue working, or when it would ask for a person’s approval. Pricing and device eligibility for that future capability are also unannounced.
Reporting and access
MacRumors and 9to5Mac both attribute the story to Gurman’s Power On newsletter. Their coverage corroborates the wording of his report, but does not independently confirm Apple’s plans.
Sulat reviewed Gurman’s public post through an indexed mirror, Bloomberg’s public headline and introduction, the two outlets’ coverage, and Apple’s developer announcement. The full Bloomberg article is subscriber-only and was not reviewed. The reported roadmap and possible timing should be read with that limitation.
