Meta buys Conductor, with cloud shutdown set for November 20

Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on November 13 before shutting down a week later. The Mac app will receive model updates and critical fixes until early 2027.

At a glance

  • Conductor Cloud becomes read-only on November 13 and shuts down on November 20.
  • Cloud workspaces and chats can be transferred to a Mac, with a separate account-data export available.
  • The local app will receive model updates and critical bug fixes until early 2027.

Meta has acquired Conductor, the startup behind a Mac app for managing several AI coding agents at once. Its hosted service, Conductor Cloud, will become read-only on November 13 and shut down on November 20, giving existing users a short window to move their work.

Founder and chief executive Charlie Holtz announced the move on November 4. Axios first reported the acquisition and said financial terms were not disclosed. Meta also confirmed the deal to TechCrunch, without providing further details.

Conductor gives each coding task an isolated workspace, where agents can make changes without sharing the same working copy of a project. Developers can follow those agents, review their output and merge the results. Its product description lists support for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, with separate branches, Git worktrees and run environments for each workspace.

Two November deadlines

The company’s shutdown timetable separates the end of active cloud work from the start of data deletion:

  • November 4: New sign-ups and app downloads stopped. Existing free users can no longer upgrade, while Pro users keep their paid features free of charge.
  • November 13: Cloud workspaces become read-only. Users can read old chats and export data, but cannot send new messages. Active subscribers will receive refunds.
  • November 20: Conductor Cloud shuts down and the company begins deleting cloud user data.

Moving cloud work to a Mac

The November 4 release notes describe two ways to preserve work. Right-clicking a cloud workspace and choosing Transfer to local moves the workspace and its chats to a Mac. A separate Export data option under Settings → Account downloads an archive of account data.

Local Conductor will continue receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, according to those notes. The company’s FAQ says the app will then start winding down, with all Conductor user data deleted when it shuts down. It does not give an exact date.

A deal seven months after its Series A

Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its app in July 2025. In a March 30 funding announcement, Holtz and co-founder Jackson de Campos said they had raised a US$22 million Series A from Spark and Matrix. At the time, they described plans to expand from small teams of agents running on MacBooks to larger deployments available through phones and private cloud environments.

The acquisition gives Meta a product built around coordinating coding agents and reviewing their work. Holtz says the team plans to offer something new in early 2027, but the announcement does not name that product or explain how it will replace Conductor.
